Historic Inventory Survey

Throughout 2016 and 2017 the Sturbridge Historic Resources Inventory was commissioned by the Town of Sturbridge, administered by the Sturbridge Historical Commission (SHC), prepared by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC), and supported by Sturbridge Community Preservation Act funds. The "Historic Resources Inventory Final Report" report discusses the methodology, results, and final recommendations of the four-phase project, which took place during this time frame.

In 2018 the Sturbridge Historic Resources Inventory was prepared by the Public Archaeology Laborartory (PAL). "The Final Report Sturbridge Community-wide Historic Properties Survey Update Phase II" discusses results of this phase.

Throughout 2024 and 2025 the Sturbridge Historic Resources Inventory was prepared by Easton Architects. This survey effort marks Phase III of the Stubridge Community Wide Historic Properties Survey Update. The goal of this project was to fill gaps in previous survey documentation through survey efforts targeting specific themes and areas identified by the Sturbridge Historical Commission. The "Community Wide Historic Properties Survey Update Survey Report" discusses the results of this phase.

The following list was narrowed to the most significant resources using the following criteria:

• Historic buildings that are potentially threatened, including some which were previously inventoried;
• Historic buildings which appear to be eligible for the National Register, either individually or related within a district;
• Historic buildings with special significance to Sturbridge; and/or
• Architecturally distinguished historic buildings, or those that are an excellent example of style, with moderate to good integrity.
