Activities of the Sturbridge Planning Department
The Town of Sturbridge Planning Department provides a wide range of services in an effort to achieve the goals of established planning documents and to improve the level of service provided to the community.  Currently we are:

  • Providing support for the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Design Review Committee in the form of project review, site inspections and department administration;
  • Working to help implement the Commercial Tourist District Revitalization Study.  More

Housing Office - Coordinates housing-related programs, assists in the preservation and creation of affordable housing, oversees Sturbridge’s Subsidized Housing Inventory, and advocates for resident’s housing needs.

Planning Board - Special Permit Granting Authority, Site Plan Review, reviewing and approving Subdivision Plans, and reviewing Subdivision Approval Not Required Plans.

Zoning Board of Appeals - Zoning Compliance Review

Design Review Committee - Sign and Architectural Design Review

Historical Commission - Local Authority to Determine the Significance of Local Historic Assets.

Affordable Housing Trust - Creation of low and moderate-income housing that supports current and future residents of Sturbridge.
