Preliminary FEMA 2022 Map Updates

The Town recently received notice from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that new Preliminary revised Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for Worcester County has been issued.  The Preliminary FIRM and FIS report included proposed flood hazard information for certain locations within the Town of Sturbridge.  The proposed flood hazard information may include the addition of modification of Special Flood Hazard Areas, the areas that would be inundated by the base (1-percent-annual-chance) flood; base elevations or depths; zone designations; or regulatory floodways.

These proposed flood hazard determinations, if finalized will become the basis for the floodplain management measures the Town must adopt.

Overview - Flood Hazard Mapping Updates

An affected property owner may appeal a designation by submitting a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) to FEMA.  A LOMA is a letter that provides an official determination of the relation of property or structure to the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).
