Is competitive play for you?

While we appreciate everyone’s eagerness to play, it is important that participants skill levels are at the level required for the league. Playing in a competitive league requires a level of skill and sportsmanship to maintain the quality of the games and the league. It's important to play at a level that is fair and enjoyable for everyone involved – it is also a safety concern.

There are several skills required to play competitive volleyball at a high level. These include:

  • Serving: A good serve is essential in volleyball, and players must be able to serve with power and accuracy.
  • Passing: Players must be able to pass the ball accurately to their teammates, as passing is the foundation of any offensive play.
  • Setting: The setter is responsible for setting up the ball for the hitters, and must have good hands and be able to set the ball with precision.
  • Hitting: The ability to hit the ball with power and accuracy is crucial for a competitive volleyball player. Players must be able to approach the net, jump, and hit the ball with proper form and technique.
  • Blocking: Blocking is an important defensive skill in volleyball, and players must be able to jump and time their block correctly to stop the opposing team's attack.
  • Digging: A good defensive player must be able to dig the ball, which means they must be able to receive a hard-hit ball and control it so their team can continue the play.
  • Communication: Volleyball is a team sport, and communication is crucial for success. Players must be able to communicate effectively with their teammates, calling out plays, and supporting each other on the court.
  • Agility and Coordination: Volleyball is a fast-paced sport that requires quick movements and rapid changes in direction. Players must be agile and coordinated to be able to move around the court and make plays.
  • Strategy: Volleyball is not just about physical skills; it also requires strategic thinking and the ability to read the game. Players must be able to analyze their opponents and adjust their game plan accordingly.
