Recreational Field Project Town Barn Fields

The Sturbridge Recreation Committee has finalized the plans for the Town Barn Field Project on New Boston Road Extension, which is located past the DPW building off of Route 131. The Recreation Committee developed this plan to provide recreational facilities for residents of Sturbridge that addresses a number of needs in the community, while improving the quality of life. Working with Craig Miller and Jacob Murray of Waterfield Design, we present these plans for your review and questions.

Proposed Town Barn Field Project

Addition of:

  • (1) Little League Baseball Field
  • (1) Multi-Purpose Field
  • Lights for Little League and Multi-Sport Fields
  • Basketball Courts
  • Lights for Basketball Courts
  • Parking for more than 90 vechicles
  • Lights for Parking area
  • Bocce Ball Courts
  • Concession Stand
  • Stands, landscaping, playground

Cost

Based on the 2018 estimated constuction numbers the total project cost is $6.7 million. $5.7 million would be funded through a debt exclusion vote, and $1 million will be funded with Community Preservation Funds through borrowing. This project will add approximetly $0.42 to the property taxes ($5.7 million at 4.10% for 20 years). That translates to an annual increase of $118 for an average resident home value of $279,755.

UPDATE ON COST:  Based on the CPC's vote to contribute an additional $250,000 to the Field project (totalling 1.25 million dollars from CPA funds) the impact on the taxpayer for a home valued at $279,755 would be $112.56.

Public Information Meeting

Join us on Wednesday, May 2nd at 7:00 PM at the Sturbridge Town Hall for a public information night and presentation by Waterfield Design Company on the Field Plans Project.

Town Meeting

The Annual Town Meeting is Monday, June 4th at 7:00 PM at Tantasqua High School.  

Babysitters will be available at the High School, contact Recreation Department at  508-347-2041 to reserve a spot.
