Sturbridge Conservation Commission Launches New Award to Honor Young Conservation Leaders
Sturbridge, MA – July 14, 2025 – The Sturbridge Conservation Commission is excited to announce the launch of a new conservation award aimed at recognizing and celebrating outstanding young individuals who are passionately dedicated to protecting the natural world. This initiative seeks to inspire future leaders in conservation and promote harmonious coexistence between people and nature.
Purpose of the Award: The new award shines a spotlight on exceptional young people whose efforts contribute significantly to the conservation of natural resources—including wildlife, forests, soils, water, and air. It aims to:
- Promote leadership by example, encouraging others to engage in conservation efforts.
- Raise awareness and understanding of effective conservation practices and projects.
- Acknowledge the invaluable contributions of young individuals to the environmental welfare of our community and state.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors residing or attending school in Sturbridge.
Application Questions:
- What actions has the individual taken to qualify for this distinction?
- Describe the impact of these actions, including specific locations and organizations involved.
- Outline the individual’s community service, memberships in conservation organizations, and any special contributions made in support of their nomination.
- Nominations can be submitted by the applicant, accompanied by a letter of support.
Application Deadline: November 13, 2025
Review Date: November 20, 2025 (candidates do not attend)
Commissioners to Vote: December 11, 2025

The Sturbridge Conservation Commission invites all eligible students to apply for this award, which seeks to encourage the next generation of conservationists and to highlight their impactful work within our community. By recognizing young leaders in conservation, we hope to inspire others to take action and join the movement towards a healthier planet.
