The Town of Sturbridge is seeking an interested resident to serve on the Open Space Committee.

Open Space

There is one (1) vacancy on the Sturbridge Open Space Committee.

The Open Space Committee is a five (5) member board appointed by the Town Administrator with confirmation by the Board of Selectmen.

The Open Space Committee is charged with promoting and completing the land-protection goals that are outlined in the town's Master Plan and Open Space & Recreation Plan and the Recreational Trails Master Plan. The group works with the area land protection organizations to secure grant monies for the purchase of land to be owned by the town as well as conservation restrictions (CRs) and agricultural protection restrictions (APRs) on privately-held acreage. Land is sought for protection for a number of reasons, including: when it connects existing green ways and wildlife habitat areas; when it contains sensitive watershed resources; when it encompasses rare or endangered species and their environments; and, if it is more valuable if left undeveloped, as for passive recreation, nature study, and enjoyment.

If you would like to serve on this Board, please send your letter of interest to Michelle Garman, Executive Assistant to the Town Administrator/Board of Selectmen at mgarman@sturbridge.gov
