The purpose of the Agricultural Commission, sometimes hereinafter referred to as "the Commission," is to support commercial agriculture and other farming activities in the Town of Sturbridge. The Commission's duties shall include, but are not limited to, serving as facilitators for encouraging the pursuits of agriculture in Sturbridge; promoting agricultural-based economic opportunities in Town; acting as mediators, advocates, educators and/or negotiators on farming issues; working for preservation of prime agricultural lands; advising the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, Board of Health, Historical Commission, Board of Assessors and Open Space Committee, or any other appropriate Town boards, on issues involving agriculture and pursuing all initiatives appropriate to creating a sustainable agricultural community.
Cable Advisory Committee – Open Volunteer Positions
The Town of Sturbridge currently has two open seats on the Cable Advisory Committee.
Residents who are interested in serving are invited to submit a letter of interest outlining relevant qualifications and experience. Letters may be sent by mail or email to the Select Board Office at [email protected].
Committee member activities may include:
- Informing and educating the public about cable television services
- Assessing the cable-related needs of the community and recommending changes
- Conducting regular meetings with cable company representatives
- Responding to residents’ questions regarding the cable television system
Conservation Commission Seeking New Members – Apply Today!
The Town of Sturbridge is currently seeking civic-minded individuals to fill one immediate vacancy for a regular voting member and two alternate member vacancies on the Conservation Commission.
This is a unique opportunity to play an active role in protecting our community’s natural resources and helping guide responsible land use decisions under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the local Wetlands Bylaw. No prior experience is necessary. The Town and the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions (MACC) offer training and educational resources to help new members make informed and confident decisions.
Members typically:
• Review and vote on permit applications for work in and around wetlands, rivers, and other sensitive areas
• Participate in public hearings and site visits

The Design Review Committee is advisory to the Building Inspector, Planning Board and or/Zoning Board of Appeals as may be appropriate and is responsible for reviewing architectural and signage proposals for commercial and industrial projects within the town. Approved by Town Meeting in 1982, is intended to balance commercial development interests with a preservation of community character and identity, The purpose of this process is to preserve for the citizens of Sturbridge, the natural and architectural qualities and historic assets that the Town has developed throughout the years.
The Committee meets one Monday afternoon per month or as needed.

The role of the Commission includes but is not limited to the following: researching local problems of people with disabilities, serving as a resource to the Town ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws affecting people with disabilities; and reviewing and making recommendations about Town policies, procedures, services, activities and facilities of departments, and agencies as they affect people with disabilities, or take any action thereto.
Historical Commission Vacancy -
The Sturbridge Historical Commission is seeking a new member to help preserve and protect our community’s historic buildings, sites, and artifacts. The Commission works to identify and evaluate important local historic assets, conduct research on places of historical and archaeological significance, collaborate with state preservation partners, and recommend actions that support long‑term protection of Sturbridge’s heritage. Members also help create educational materials, participate in surveys and documentation efforts, and contribute to annual reporting on the town’s preservation work. If you’re passionate about local history and want to play a meaningful role in safeguarding Sturbridge’s past for future generations, we’d love to have you join us.

Special Events Committee Two (2) Vacancies,
There are two (2) vacancies on the Sturbridge Special Events Committee (SEC). The SEC is a six (6) member board appointed by the Town Administrator with confirmation by the Select Board.
The SEC mission is to work towards creating new events in the Town that are enjoyable, fun, increase community fellowship and/or raise funds for worthwhile and charitable causes. In the past, the SEC has fostered the popular Sturbridge Farmer’s Market and the annual Home of the Brave 5K Race which raises funds to support Sturbridge veterans. The SEC is currently in the planning stages of Summer/Fall 2026 event to offer a good time and bring town residents together.
The committee of six is comprised of a Select Board member, Cultural Council member, and four (4) residents of the community at large. If you would like to serve on this Board, please send a letter or email of interest to:

Director, 2026 Sturbridge Pickleball Tournament

The Town of Sturbridge Special Events Committee is seeking a civic minded individual to help coordinate the preparations for a first ever town pickleball tournament. This position will have the support of town staff, members of the Special Events Committee and volunteers so the work tasks will be comfortably shared. It is hoped that this event will provide a fun experience for town residents of all ages at a time when pickleball is so popular. The position carries a stipend of $350.00. Sturbridge Tourist Association One (1) Vacancy - Letters of interest are sent to the Town Administrator: Robin Grimm, [email protected]
The Sturbridge Tourist Association currently has a vacancy for one of its five seats. Terms of office are for 3 years. Three of these seats are dedicated to town residents and 2 are for a lodging or tourism related business. This vacant seat is for a lodging or tourism related business representative with the term of office for this seat ending on June 30, 2027.
As background, the Sturbridge Tourist Association (STA) is a five member town board that works to promote Sturbridge for its attractive value as a visitor and tourist destination and a central location for business meetings/ conferences as well as weddings and other personal/family get togethers. Sturbridge is home to over 125 small tourism related businesses, 2 RV Parks with nearly 350 RV Pads, 10 hotels and motels and 3 conference venues. Annual visitorship to Sturbridge is over 500,000 people with over 200,000 visiting Old Sturbridge Village. Funding for these attraction efforts derive from a portion of the hotel/motel tax revenue collected within the Town of Sturbridge. The STA uses these funds to promote Sturbridge's tourism advantages and attractions locally, regionally and beyond. The STA also works to support town sponsored community events that encourage tourism which generates increased visitorship and local spending. Since its inception the STA has worked to promote the Town and to increase tourism to Sturbridge.
