PROJECT UPDATE: Pre-Construction Roadway Preparation & Reclamation Work

Road Work

Department: Public Works
Impacted Areas: Leadmine Road, Leno Road, Stearns Drive, Laflamme Lane, Maple Street, Jamieson Road, and Champeaux Road
Timeline: Starting Wednesday, July 1st, and continuing over the next several weeks

The Sturbridge Department of Public Works has officially awarded the Town-Wide Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) and Paving Project to Mass Broken Stone Company. Ahead of the heavy contractor machinery arriving, Sturbridge DPW highway crews will begin vital roadway preparation work starting this week.

Phase 1: DPW Roadway Preparation (Immediate)
Residents will see Town crews out on the designated project roads beginning roadside edge pullbacks, clearing shoulder growth, and preparing localized drainage structures. This prep work ensures the reclamation machinery has a clean, wide path to process the roadway base uniformly.

Phase 2: Contractor Full Depth Reclamation & Paving (Following Weeks)
Once preparation wraps up, the contractor will move heavy machinery onto the streets to pulverize the existing asphalt, blend it with stabilizing liquid calcium chloride, and lay down the new binder and top asphalt courses.

What Residents Need to Know:
•    Work Hours: Standard operations will occur Monday through Friday, typically between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM.
•    Traffic Impacts: Roadways will remain open to local traffic, school buses, and emergency vehicles. Expect localized lane closures, temporary travel delays, and shifting gravel or pulverized driving surfaces. Please reduce speeds through active work zones.
•    Driveway Access: Access to private driveways will be maintained, though brief interruptions may occur while machinery passes your property.
•    Direct Notifications: The contractor is required to distribute a formal 48-hour advance notice (door hangers) directly to homes before any work requiring temporary road closures or pavement capping occurs.

The DPW appreciates your patience and cooperation as we deliver these critical town-wide infrastructure improvements.
