Sturbridge Police Camera Registry Program (SPCRP)

In an effort to continue our public safety partnership with citizens and businesses, the Sturbridge Police Department is excited to launch a new initiative called the Sturbridge Police Camera Registry Program (SPCRP). This new program will help our residents and business owners aid Sturbridge Police in solving crimes and various neighborhood problems.  The SPCRP allows residents and business owners to voluntarily register their video surveillance systems with the Sturbridge Police Department.  When a crime occurs, police will be able to identify the locations of nearby cameras via the registry and enlist the assistance of the community to help officers collect potential video surveillance and follow up on leads.

With this program, the Sturbridge Police Department will be able to directly contact SPCRP members that are using video surveillance in an area in which a crime occurred.  Police would ask SPCRP members to check their video footage for a specific date and time that may show activity involved with a crime, such as a getaway car or the direction that a person of interest traveled. These video clips can be crucial to solving many neighborhood crimes such as smash and grabs, house breaks, robberies and vandalism to name a few. The Sturbridge Police currently conduct neighborhood canvasses an interview neighbors now as a routine practice to obtain evidence however having the knowledge of who has exterior security cameras may increase our solvability of these crimes.
