Senior Center Feasibility & Project

This study completed in 2020 explores 3 options to meet the ever growing needs of the Council on Aging program space and requirements. This study is a follow up to the Needs Study completed by CME Associates. Explored in this document by Bargmann, Hendrie + Archtype (BH+A) are 3 options: (1) Renovate and add on to existing senior center at 480 Main Street; (2) Determine if building a new building at 80 Haynes Street is feasible; and (3) Determine if building a new building at 70 Cedar Street, accessed from Cedar Pond Road, is feasible. The Senior Center Study committee recommended Option 3 above to the Board of Selectmen, and the recommended test-fit site plan is also available for download.

On October 28, 2021, a warrant article for the renovation/addition of the senior center at 480 Main Street (current site) passed at Special Town Meeting for borrowing $11,450,000. The corresponding town ballot vote passed on January 24, 2022. The Senior Center Building Committee has been appointed and has started meeting for the project. Agendas and meetings will be posted on the Town calendar for those who are interested in participating. An Owner's Project Manager and Design Team have been procured.

Building Committee: Charlie Blanchard, William Chamberland, Rebecca Mimeault, Alan Steinberg, Michael Walker

Updates:

The project is now in the design phase. At the June 5, 2023 Annual Town Meeting the town voted to fund an additional $1,780,000 of Community Preservation Funds (borrowing) for historic work included in the project. The project was publicly bid, and the committee did not make an award to a contractor due to inadequate funds. Stay tuned for more updates on the committee's forward motions to make this project a reality.
